AWT extends the container transship point by European grants

18.12.2009

Advanced World Transport, a. s. (former OKD, Doprava, a. s.) continuously extends and modernizes the container transship point in Paskov.

The aim of the comprehensive investment project is to build a modern transship point for intermodal transport of European importance. Location near the expressway R 56, which is connected with a highway system, and the company’s own railway siding, make it possible to use the benefits and experience of intermodal transport operation based on a combination of railway transport and road transport.

One of the project phases is also a purchase of a front reloader for ISO containers, series 1, made by a Swedish company Kalmar. This investment was co-financed from the EU funds. A subsidy in the amount of CZK 4,236,622, which represents approximately one third of the costs related to the purchase of the new reloader was provided by the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic in December 2009.

„The transship point of intermodal transport in Paskov will have strategic importance in the future. It is beneficial mainly thanks to its location near the expressway R 56 and the industrial zones in Mošnov, Ostrava-Hrabova and Nošovice. An advantage is also a siding interconnection with the national railway network" explained Attila Boros.

The company expects growth of international transport in ISO containers, series 1, from nearby regions of Poland and Slovakia and therefore it keeps expanding the transship point. Thus preconditions are created for the extension and improvement of services provided in intermodal transport. Upgraded transport and logistic services will also contribute to the development of business activities in Ostrava region.

The new reloading mechanism (also known as a telescopic stacker) will significantly speed up technological processes in the transship point of intermodal transport and increase utilized capacities of the railway siding, which is operated and owned by AWT. Purchase of the mechanism will enable annual increase of current capacity of transship mechanisms by additional 24 thousand ISO containers, series 1.

Total investment related to the purchase of the transship mechanism and putting it into operation reached almost 13 mil. CZK. To finance this project, the company partially used financial support from the Operational program Transport (area of support - 6.1. Revitalization of Railway Sidings) of the European Fund for Regional Development. The Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic is the controller of the program Revitalization of Railway Sidings.
