Employee care

The accelerating changes in the Czech and global economy have resulted in the necessity of continuous improvement and learning of new things. The AWT group therefore pays great attention to and invests significant sums in both specialist and non-specialist training of its employees, also using European Union funds for this purpose.

Individual companies of the AWT group have historically different motivation systems, which will soon be gradually unified. In addition to education and training, employee benefits include generous holiday, contributions to pension and life insurance schemes, employee transport and commuting, accommodation in our facilities, recreation of employees and their children, curative projects, preventive health care, etc.

Co-operation with Schools

A workforce numbering almost 2,500 employees places great demands on AWT for regular recruitment of new staff. Hence, we strive to educate our future employees while they are still studying and provide help to the schools whose graduates have joined us over the long term. We co-operate with a number of universities, secondary vocation schools and training centres.

Co-operation with Universities Takes Place in the Form of

  • Specialist internships and short-term attachments
  • Students' fields trips to our workplaces
  • Classes directly in the group's workplaces (engine houses, goods vehicle repair shop)
  • Lectures given by our experts at schools

Work Safety

During freight transportation or work on shuttle trains, accidents may occur due to unlucky circumstances, carelessness or failing to abide by the set rules. Our aim is to reduce the number of such situations to the minimum and, above all, prevent casualties.

When it comes to work safety, the AWT group carries out continuous training of all employees and has an elaborate system of risk elimination for all workplaces. Within the best possible prevention of emergencies, it regularly, before the start of every shift, instructs employees in work safety regulations. The company also possesses the ČSN OHSAS 18001:2008 – Workplace Health and Safety Management System – certificate.

The AWT group has implemented internal regulations ensuring that all accidents and emergency situations are duly investigated. We familiarise our employees with the causes of accidents and take appropriate measures aimed at preventing such situations from happening again.

The Saint Barbora Civic Association

Občanské sdružení svatá Barbora

The AWT group is a member of the Saint Barbora Civic Association, which helps children who have lost one parent as a consequence of an occupational accident. At the present time, the Association contributes to the study, hobbies and health care of one hundred registered Czech, Polish and Slovak children.

The idea of founding the Association was primarily based on the endeavour to ensure that the children who have lost one of their parents are not discriminated against in financial terms. The situation in a family who have been deprived of the breadwinner is by no means simple. The Association thus aims to ensure that the orphaned children have enough money to study, develop their talents, pursue their hobbies, etc.

Priority support is given to education and training. The Association primarily pays for the children's tuition fees, learning aids, nursery school fees, fees for hobbies and sports clubs, nature schools and skiing courses. When it comes to health care, it contributes to health aids and curative stays.

The Saint Barbora Civic Association's members are companies belonging to the OKD group, supply firms providing for individual mines, as well as other companies and natural persons. The Association is open and can be joined at any time by other legal and natural persons.
