Social Responsibility
We at AWT perceive enterprise as both an opportunity and a commitment. We already have 60 years of history behind us and plan to be doing business into the future for an even longer period. That is why we strive to ensure that our business activities comply with the principles of sustainability and social responsibility. Our objective is to set high standards of business ethics in all the companies we own or in which we have a stake.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY STRATEGY
The AWT group originated as a result of the amalgamation of several companies with long-standing traditions. In the past,
each of these companies approached the issue of social responsibility in a different manner. Therefore, in 2010 we began working on a uniform corporate responsibility strategy that would define the respective areas, themes and priorities crucial for us.
Moreover, we became a member of the Business for Society platform , a grouping associating companies pursuing social responsibility and responsible business.
The Environment
We strive to treat with the utmost consideration both the environment and the people living in it. Our main domain is railway services, one of the most environmentally friendly means of transport there is. We have been reducing the impacts of our activity on the environment through regular modernisation of our rolling stock and efficient use of combined transport. We have decreased our energy consumption and waste production over the long term. We are experts in land reclamation, possessing 50 years of experience, the necessary technology and highly qualified staff capable of restoring life to land devastated by human activities. We strive to apply sustainability principles in all the activities our group pursues.
Employee Care
With approximately 2,500 employees at dozens of workplaces spread throughout the Czech Republic we rank among the largest employers in the country. The AWT group is well aware of the fact that the major precondition for our success is highly qualified and flexible employees. We therefore invest in education and improvement of our employee's qualifications, working in tandem with training centres, vocation schools and universities. We provide loyal employees with the possibilities of career advancement alongside numerous benefits. Our major goal is to minimise occupational accidents, and to this end we have invested in work safety and improved the regulations aimed at reducing the risk of job-related injuries to the minimum.
Corporate Governance
We approach our employees as well as our business partners in an ethical manner. Our staff strictly abide by the newly created ethics code. We comply with the most stringent ISO standards and are holders of other certificates, whose validity has been regularly checked by independent audits.
Local Communities and Traditions
The activities carried out by the AWT group have long since crossed the borders of the Moravia-Silesia Region, yet we are still aware of where we started and where the majority of our employees hail from. By means of the OKD Foundation, we support the region's development, preserving the industrial heritage of Northern Moravia, as well as a large part of our group's history, through the Mining Museum in Ostrava. Moreover, we support other socially beneficial projects in all the regions we operate.
Donations
The AWT group is one of the most generous corporate donors in the Czech Republic. A number of projects are contributed to by the group's individual companies, with collections among employees themselves also having a tradition.
